James joined RSM Law in 2026 after moving to Timaru from the United States, where he began practising law in 2007. In addition to his admission as a barrister and solicitor of the High Court of New Zealand, he is also licensed to practise law in the USA in North Carolina, New York, and Virginia (including the US District Court in VA’s Western District). He earned his juris doctor degree from Wake Forest School of Law. James specialises in property and commercial law.

Outside of work, James enjoys running, tramping, and time at home with his wife and four children. He also enjoys software programming and playing the mandolin (but he still has a lot to learn about both).
